Weston Transport Four New FASSI F660RA.2.26 Crane Trucks

Weston Transport Limited, one of the UK's leading Lorry Mounted Crane Specialists recently took delivery of four new Fassi F660RA2.26 DAFs from Alltruck cranes. Almost three years on from having a new F660RA.2.26 fitted by Alltruck to a DAF XF 510 tractor unit, which was one of the first FASSI cranes installed after being appointed the dealer for Scotland.

Fast forward, and four additional new crane trucks delivered successfully, we thought it would be interesting to ask Weston Transport's Operations Director - Kenny McKinlay what he thought of our new build process.

Kenny commented "Weston Transport have a very strong and loyal customer base, it is essential that we provide high standards of service, and this requires the provision of good quality staff and equipment. Without reliable suppliers and reliable equipment, customers will quickly lose patience. We are very impressed with the Fassi product and delighted with the service and support we received from Alltruck. On the latest vehicles, we opted to go for a front leg installation on two of the four crane trucks. New ground for both ourselves and Alltruck, but with the exceptional hands-on support and the focus of Alltruck crane Director Danny Smith, the builds have worked very well and are exceptionally neat and tidy. Danny's attention to detail even extended to travelling from his Grangemouth site to visit our premises in Coventry. He provided in-depth training to our loader operators at vehicle handover, ensuring that the operators were fully aware of the capabilities of the crane and able to operate it at its fullest extent. We will be going for further fleet replacement in 2021 and will most definitely be incorporating both the Fassi product and the services of Alltruck for these builds."

The four new F660RA.2.26 cranes installed to DAF CF460 chassis [ supplied by Ford & Slater DAF] were all specified with the latest FSC-SII stability system. The FSC-SII system proportionally optimises lifting capacity at every possible crane and supplementary outrigger position, which means that the lift can be completed even in the very tightest of spaces safely.

Two of the vehicles were fitted with front stabilisers to enable the double stacking of modular buildings over the front of the cab but also a very useful setup for those hard to reach placements and lifts. All cranes were specified with the FASSI CCD (Cab Collision Detection) system. The CCD system is designed to prevent collision of the crane boom with the truck cab through the use of sensors and a defined protection zone, limiting the chance of accidental damage through operator error.

To complete the builds Weston Transport had the bodies built by Alltruck group partner PMH Coachbuilders. Supplied with 25ft bespoke heavy-duty platform bodies with ISO twist locks, multi lashing points, VBG drawbar coupling, and rear hydraulic load support beam. To aid safety and visibility when lifting and while transporting large loads like modular buildings the bodies were equipped with F&R wide load marker arms with integrated lights, Six external work lamps, hazard strobe lights, baton-sheet-chain and toolboxes. Also, ladder storage, with Safety rail fall arrest system and access ladders.
